Letter from Grove Karl Gilbert to [William Morris] Davis, 1892? October 4.

This letter from Gilbert to Davis describes slopes and erosion. The head of the letter states: Reply to my MS. on "Convex profiles of divides." It was written in Washington on U.S. Geological Survey letterhead, probably in 1892. Davis's work The Convex Profiles of Badland Divides was published in 1893.

William Morris Davis (1850-1934) was an American geographer, geologist, geomorphologist, and meteorologist, often called the "father of American geography." Grove Karl Gilbert, also known as G.K. Gilbert, was an American geologist. In 1871 he joined George M. Wheeler's geographical survey as its first geologist.
